Café style shutters, also known as half height shutters, cover only the lower window panes or section of the window. The top half stays clear, so you get privacy at eye level while daylight keeps coming in above.
They are ideal for ground floor rooms facing a street or pavement, and for first floor bedrooms and bathrooms that need privacy without losing light. Kitchens, dining rooms and living rooms are all popular choices.
The name comes from traditional French cafés, where shutters on the lower half of the window gave diners privacy while letting sunlight in through the upper panes.
Yes. Because you only order shutters for the lower window panes, café style is our most cost effective shutter style, and it uses less material than full height or tier on tier shutters.
Café style shutters are available in all eight of our ranges, from best-value Antigua MDF and hard-wearing Bermuda ABS to waterproof Java and our Hawaii, Cuba and Fiji hardwoods, plus solid panel options.
Yes. Our Java range is 100% water resistant, tough and durable, which makes it ideal for bathrooms, en-suites, kitchens and other moisture prone rooms.
Yes. You can design and buy café style shutters online, using our measuring guide and, if you like, video measuring help. If you would rather not measure, book a free home survey and our own team will measure and fit them for you.
Very well. Half height shutters pair nicely with curtains and blinds, so you can add softness or full blackout at night while keeping the shutters for daytime privacy.
Take a look at our tier on tier shutters. They have independent upper and lower panels, so you can open the top for light and close the bottom for privacy, or close both.
Your made-to-measure shutters take around 12 weeks to be completed and delivered; special shapes and custom colour matches can take up to 18 weeks. Our shutters are guaranteed for three years.
