Custom Colour Cafe Style Shutters in Islington Posted on 19 May 13:54 , 0 comments
We were recently contacted by a client in Islington, North London, who was in the process of renovating their home. They were looking for bespoke, high-quality plantation shutters for their beautiful front-facing bay window in the living room.
With a generously sized bay window as the architectural focal point of the room, the client had the freedom to explore our full range of shutter styles. Their main priority was to enhance this striking architectural feature while ensuring the shutters blended seamlessly with the existing interior elements they had chosen — including the walls, carpentry, and window hardware. We were pleased to offer our custom colour-matching service, allowing the shutters to integrate perfectly with the room's colour palette.

Privacy and natural light were also important considerations, especially with the home situated on a busy residential street. The client also planned to add curtains later, which can work wonderfully in tandem with shutters to create a layered and versatile window treatment (read more on How To Dress a Bay Window)
Cafe Style shutters were decided to be the ideal solution. By covering just the lower section of the bay window panes, they provide important privacy from the street while allowing maximum light to flood through the upper panes.
The shutters were crafted from our Fiji range — a premium hardwood that’s both lightweight and durable, making it perfect for larger windows. The Fiji range also offers the flexibility of custom colour finishes, which was essential to meet the design brief for this project.
The client was thrilled with the final result, and we are too! The custom-coloured shutters complement the existing joinery and décor beautifully!

This article remains at its original URL as part of our complete journal archive. Its subject connects to the same specialist guidance our surveyors provide today: considering the window proportions, room, privacy requirements, light and the right product material before confirming a design.
A considered approach
Shutters are made to order, so good decisions begin with careful measuring and a clear understanding of how the room is used. Full height, café style and tier-on-tier panels each manage light and privacy differently, while bay windows, special shapes and wide openings need their own design response.
Our team can show you the current range of materials, colours, louvre sizes and hardware during a free home survey.
For confident DIY customers, selected shutter styles can also be measured and configured online. More complex bay, shaped and tracked installations are best discussed with our professional measure-and-fit team.
