Bay Window Shutters in Ealing, West London Posted on 30 Jun 11:11 , 0 comments
The Shutter Shop recently completed an entire home shutter installation for a beautifully renovated Victorian property in Ealing, West London. The homeowners were looking for elegant, made-to-measure bay window shutters that would complement every street-facing window while preserving the character and charm of their period home.
The project included several bespoke bay window shutters, fitted to traditional splay bay window, box bay windows, and original sash windows. Each required a bespoke solution to complement the property's architecture while providing privacy, light control and insulation.

Why Bay Window Shutters Are the Perfect Choice
Bay windows are one of the defining features of Victorian and Edwardian homes throughout West London. They create a wonderful sense of space, allow more natural light into a room and add architectural character both inside and out.
Unlike curtains, which can disguise the shape of a bay window, plantation shutters are designed to follow every angle of the window perfectly. Each panel is individually measured and custom made, enhancing the original features rather than hiding them.
Bay window shutters also maintain the additional floor space created by the bay, making rooms feel brighter and more spacious.
For homes overlooking the street, shutters provide an ideal balance of privacy and natural light, allowing homeowners to adjust the louvres throughout the day without completely closing off the room.

Bespoke Shutter Styles Throughout the Home
Every room in this home had different requirements, so we recommended a combination of shutter styles to suit the way each space is used.
- Full Height Shutters with Split Louvres – Ideal for bedrooms and living areas, allowing the top and bottom sections to be adjusted independently for maximum flexibility.
- Tier-on-Tier Shutters – Perfect for rooms where independent opening of the upper and lower panels offers greater control over privacy and ventilation.
- Café Style Shutters – An excellent option for maintaining privacy at street level while allowing plenty of natural light through the upper part of the window.
Although different shutter styles were chosen, every installation shared the same specification to create a cohesive look throughout the property.
Project Specification
The homeowners selected our entry-level hardwood range - Cuba Hardwood shutters throughout the home, finished in a timeless colour palette that complements the period features.
- Material: Cuba Hardwood
- Paint Finish: Creamy
- Louvre Size: 89mm
- Tilt Rod: Hidden
- Hinges: Bright Brass
The hidden tilt rods create a clean, contemporary appearance while allowing the elegant proportions of the shutters to take centre stage.
Rooms Included
This installation included bespoke shutters for:
- Home Office
- Living Room Bay Windows
- Master Bedroom & Guest Bedroom
- Master En-suite, Guest En-suite & Family Bathroom
- Utility Room & Boot Room
Each window shutter was individually measured and professionally installed to ensure a perfect fit, particularly around the property's beautiful bay and sash windows.

Enhancing a Beautiful Victorian Home
One of the most satisfying aspects of this project was seeing how seamlessly the shutters complemented the home's original Victorian architecture. From the elegant bay windows at the front of the property to the traditional sash windows throughout, the shutters enhance the period detailing while introducing a clean, timeless finish.
The consistent use of the Creamy paint finish, 89mm louvres and bright brass hinges creates a harmonious look across every room, despite the variety of shutter styles used.

This article remains at its original URL as part of our complete journal archive. Its subject connects to the same specialist guidance our surveyors provide today: considering the window proportions, room, privacy requirements, light and the right product material before confirming a design.
A considered approach
Shutters are made to order, so good decisions begin with careful measuring and a clear understanding of how the room is used. Full height, café style and tier-on-tier panels each manage light and privacy differently, while bay windows, special shapes and wide openings need their own design response.
Our team can show you the current range of materials, colours, louvre sizes and hardware during a free home survey.
For confident DIY customers, selected shutter styles can also be measured and configured online. More complex bay, shaped and tracked installations are best discussed with our professional measure-and-fit team.
