Cafe Style, Half Height Shutters for a property in Shepherds Bush Posted on 10 Nov 09:39 , 0 comments
We installed cafe style shutters, also known as half height shutters for a residential property in Shepherds Bush, West London which was about to go on the market. Half Height Shutters or café style shutters, just have shutter panels that cover the lower window panes and are an ideal way to keep natural light in the room by having the upper window panes left clear for sunlight to flood in, but achieve privacy on the lower level.

Café style shutters are a great option in urban areas and if you live in a property with people walking past your windows who can see into your living space, or have neighbour directly opposite, which was the case with this project in Shepherds Bush and is the case with many homes in cities and towns.

For this property, the rooms requiring shutters were at the front of the house, the sitting room on the ground floor with a double sash window and the master bedroom on the first floor with a double sash & single sash window.

The property also had existing curtains in place on all of the windows, therefore the primary reason for installing shutters was for privacy. Café style shutters work particularly well alongside other window dressings, especially with curtains.

Our clients wanted a product that was hardwearing & sleek, but also wanted to keep the cost to a minimum as they were soon to put the property on the market, they also hoped that by adding café style shutters to their home it may increase the value of their property. We recommended our entry level Antigua MDF product - MDF shutters are a favourite option of ours and many of our clients due to their aesthetic, high quality and price point. Having selected café style shutters from the Antigua range they then went with the popular 76mm louvres and with a hidden tilt rod, this offered a contemporary and timeless look. The end was result looked fantastic from both the inside and also the outside, adding the much desired kerb appeal.

This article remains at its original URL as part of our complete journal archive. Its subject connects to the same specialist guidance our surveyors provide today: considering the window proportions, room, privacy requirements, light and the right product material before confirming a design.
A considered approach
Shutters are made to order, so good decisions begin with careful measuring and a clear understanding of how the room is used. Full height, café style and tier-on-tier panels each manage light and privacy differently, while bay windows, special shapes and wide openings need their own design response.
Our team can show you the current range of materials, colours, louvre sizes and hardware during a free home survey.
For confident DIY customers, selected shutter styles can also be measured and configured online. More complex bay, shaped and tracked installations are best discussed with our professional measure-and-fit team.
