Half Height Shutters in Chiswick Period Property Posted on 24 Oct 14:22 , 0 comments

We recently completed an installation of our café style shutters, also known as half height shutters for a beautiful home in Chiswick, West London. Half Height Shutters, which solely cover the lower window panes, are a great way to keep natural light in the room and also gain privacy which was required in these street facing rooms.

Café style shutters are particularly popular in cities & towns and if you live in a home with regular passers-by who can see into your living space, which was the case with this project in Chiswick.

For this family home, the rooms requiring shutters were at the front of the house, the formal living room on the ground floor and the nursery room on the first floor. As a period property with beautiful triple sash windows the clients were keen to enhance the original features of the rooms and our shutters allowed for this, as well as privacy and light control.

Our clients decided upon Café Style shutters in our entry level Antigua mdf shutter product range, with our popular 76mm louvres and with a hidden tilt rod. As the home already had existing black out blinds fitted in the nursery room, we were able to install our shutters in front of these, and due to this additional element of light control provided by the blinds, only half height shutters were required. The finished result was a contemporary and also uncluttered look.

The Shutter Shop has spent more than 35 years helping homeowners find made-to-measure window treatments that work with the character and practical needs of their homes.

This article remains at its original URL as part of our complete journal archive. Its subject connects to the same specialist guidance our surveyors provide today: considering the window proportions, room, privacy requirements, light and the right product material before confirming a design.

A considered approach

Shutters are made to order, so good decisions begin with careful measuring and a clear understanding of how the room is used. Full height, café style and tier-on-tier panels each manage light and privacy differently, while bay windows, special shapes and wide openings need their own design response.

Our team can show you the current range of materials, colours, louvre sizes and hardware during a free home survey.

For confident DIY customers, selected shutter styles can also be measured and configured online. More complex bay, shaped and tracked installations are best discussed with our professional measure-and-fit team.
