COVID-19 – CUSTOMER UPDATE Posted on 24 Mar 11:24 , 0 comments

With the current global concerns about coronavirus (COVID-19) and the evolving situation, we would like to assure you that we have the appropriate continuity plans in place to minimise disruption and continue to provide the excellent service you would expect from us! We have answered a few of your questions below which we hope will help you to understand the way we are currently working.

Can I still have a site survey? Can I still have my shutters installed?

As of Tuesday 24th March, following government advice, we have decided to temporarily close our showroom & will not be undertaking home surveys or installations until we have been informed it is safe to do so. As you will understand, we have a responsibility to try and protect our members of staff and our customers to prevent the spread of the virus. We are however very much working away from our homes to assist you via telephone or email. Over the last 30 years of business we have never been forced to take such measures and we ask for all of our customers understanding at this time. Please rest assured that all orders and installations will be fulfilled and rescheduled for when the government has made us aware it is safe to do so.

How else can I get a quotation now that we are all self isolating and in lockdown?

Getting a quotation to you is still possible! You can organise an initial video survey online though our website survey request page. We will organise for a video conversation with one of our expert team members who will be able to advise you via video link how best to measure your windows and discuss the best shutter and blind options with you.

Will my shutter order be delayed?

We are working hard to minimise delays, but there is an element of the unknown with this. We always like to allow for extra time in the lead times that we give to our customers to allow for potential delays (of any kind), but in this current climate, it may be that the lead time might increase from the normal stated 8 – 10 weeks. However, please be reassured that we will be keeping you updated throughout this process and you will be informed if your order is likely to be delayed. We hope it will not be the case!

We are proud to have our shutters manufactured by arguably the best Shutter factory in the world Nien Made situated in Southern China. They have barely missed a beat during this time as all their components are manufactured or made ‘in house’ and while they have several years of timber for production at the factory also have their own plantations for replenishing stock. There are however likely delays on both sides of the chain, both from China and UK, due to necessary precautions being put in place with safety checks.

Can I get coronavirus from my shutters arriving from China?

There is currently no evidence that the virus can be transmitted to us via parcels or packages. Additional safety checks and precautions are also in place on goods leaving and arriving into ports.

Can I still visit your showroom?

Unfortunately we have temporarily had to close our showroom in line with the government announcements earlier this week. We hope that this will be for as short a time as possible. If we can assist you on the phone or email do get in touch, we would love to chat. We can also send out colour samples to you in the post.

We will continue to update this page if any of the above is to change, and will remain in close contact with our customers on any orders in progress to reassure them of the status.

We wish everybody the best during these difficult times – stay safe, stay home.

The Shutter Shop has spent more than 35 years helping homeowners find made-to-measure window treatments that work with the character and practical needs of their homes.

This article remains at its original URL as part of our complete journal archive. Its subject connects to the same specialist guidance our surveyors provide today: considering the window proportions, room, privacy requirements, light and the right product material before confirming a design.

A considered approach

Shutters are made to order, so good decisions begin with careful measuring and a clear understanding of how the room is used. Full height, café style and tier-on-tier panels each manage light and privacy differently, while bay windows, special shapes and wide openings need their own design response.

Our team can show you the current range of materials, colours, louvre sizes and hardware during a free home survey.

For confident DIY customers, selected shutter styles can also be measured and configured online. More complex bay, shaped and tracked installations are best discussed with our professional measure-and-fit team.
