We’ve been in the business of designing and installing interior shutters for over thirty years and have come across almost every query when helping our customers design the perfect shutters. Interior window shutters are extremely versatile as they create ambient lighting and plenty of privacy in any room and we’ve listed our top ten tips below to help you through the process;
1. Consider the amount of time you spend in the room and its main use
If you are looking for shutters for your bedroom, you may want to consider integrated black out blinds with shutters to ensure you get 100% blackout for when the sun comes up early. In contrast, living room shutters need to make the most of the day light whilst you go about your daily tasks, providing you with a feeling of security and not being overlooked. These considerations help determine the shutter style: café, tier on tier or full height shutters.
2. Dress the window with coloured or wood stained interior shutters
Coloured shutters can provide a wonderful feature in any room by complementing your colour scheme or as a standalone feature amongst neutral hues. We offer a colour matching service so we can customise the colour of your perfect shutters to match any wall paint, furniture or fabric colour choice.
3. Keep it fresh and simple with white shutters

4. Which Louvre size works best?
Once you’ve decided on interior shutters and have chosen the colour, you need to determine which louvre size works best for the window. The window frame and room size will have some weighting on this but overall, the larger the louvre size the more light enters the room as it has a larger surface area that reflects light.
5. Window frames come in all shapes and sizes and so do our shutters
Don’t let the size or shape of your window limit your shutter design options. Our interior shutters can be customised to any size, be it within a room, conservatory or even a boat house.
6. Perfect shutters must be child friendly!
Interior window shutters are a great way to avoid the risks associated with blind cords (although all our blinds have a child safety mechanism). They are opened and closed with a tilt rod mechanism and provide a stylish and safe alternative to suit both modern and traditional homes.
7. Don’t forget the finishing touches!
The final stage in completing your perfect shutters is to add coloured or metal hinges for the frames and deciding if you would like central, hidden or offset rods to manage the shutter angles.
8. Blinds, curtains or shutters or all three?
Don’t limit your window treatment to just one element. The use of shutters and curtains can work well together in bedrooms and in a lounge where you still want the ability to draw curtains at the end of the day but want to enjoy the privacy and lighting options that interior shutters provide.
