Adding a traditional touch with Solid Shutters in the Henley Countryside Posted on 23 May 19:11 , 0 comments

We recently completed a beautiful shutter installation in a newly built country home nestled in the scenic Henley countryside. The homeowners already had a clear idea: they wanted solid shutters to create a cosy and elegant atmosphere. During the survey, they chose between the two solid styles we offer—Solid Raised, known for its decorative detailing, and Solid Shaker, which features a more minimalist aesthetic. They chose Solid Raised Panel shutters as they perfectly aligned with the period charm and aesthetic they wished to bring into their new home.

The shutters were installed in three key rooms: the dining room, living room, and the family snug. As the property isn’t overlooked, privacy wasn’t a major concern. Instead, the homeowners wanted to create a warm and inviting feel when the shutters are closed, while also enjoying the stylish effect of the solid panels framing their windows when open.

To ensure the shutters completed the interior décor and matched seamlessly with the existing joinery, the clients chose to take advantage of our custom colour match service, which is only available with our hardwood ranges. The final touch included antique brass hinges and ring pulls, adding a beautifully curated and considered finish to the overall design.

Solid Panel Shutters are a popular choice among clients for various reasons—some use them to replace original period shutters, while others, like these homeowners, use them to introduce traditional character into a more contemporary build. Whatever the reason, solid shutters bring a timeless elegance to any interior.

Our Solid Panel shutters are part of our premium FIJI range, crafted from the finest hardwood to ensure durability, insulation, and longevity. They not only provide excellent sound and heat insulation, but also offer darkness and maximum privacy when closed.

For those looking for a cleaner, more understated look, our Solid Shaker shutters—also available in the FIJI range—feature flat panel inserts and crisp lines. They are made from Paulownia, a lightweight yet highly durable and warp-resistant hardwood. Paulownia is also an eco-conscious choice, sourced from fast-growing, sustainable trees.

The Shutter Shop has spent more than 35 years helping homeowners find made-to-measure window treatments that work with the character and practical needs of their homes.

This article remains at its original URL as part of our complete journal archive. Its subject connects to the same specialist guidance our surveyors provide today: considering the window proportions, room, privacy requirements, light and the right product material before confirming a design.

A considered approach

Shutters are made to order, so good decisions begin with careful measuring and a clear understanding of how the room is used. Full height, café style and tier-on-tier panels each manage light and privacy differently, while bay windows, special shapes and wide openings need their own design response.

Our team can show you the current range of materials, colours, louvre sizes and hardware during a free home survey.

For confident DIY customers, selected shutter styles can also be measured and configured online. More complex bay, shaped and tracked installations are best discussed with our professional measure-and-fit team.
